Ayurveda as Therapeutic Music

Ayurveda Music

Ayurveda is a system of ancient healing that has been practiced in India since the ancient Vedic period. This system has enormous influence in South Asia and it is still practiced as a form of substitute medicine. This traditional healing system has been evolving throughout its existence and is now accepted in the western world as an alternative system of medicine.

In the western world, the ayurveda music is known as a form of complementary and alternative medicine. Some of its systems and methods have enjoyed a recent surge of popularity. In order to complement traditional and contemporary medical therapies, herbs, massages, and yoga exercises have been used. Every so often these methods are utilized as entirely a form of CAM therapy.

Sushruta, has been practicing ayurveda music, describes perfect health as a state where all of one’s constitution are in perfect balance, whose appetite is excellent, whose tissue layers function normally, whose excretory systems, and whose self, senses, and mind remain full of bliss. As the philosophy of Ayurveda states, everything in our world has a unique personal vibration. All matter animate and inanimate has this distinctive personal vibration distinct from all matter. A person is in good health only when there is an unhindered and free flow of energy inside him. When there are disturbances in the flow this causes illness within an individual.

With the kind of toxic environment we live in, in addition to poor eating habits, preferences, terrible way of living, and stressful career, it is extremely difficult to find an individual with a free flow of energy within. This situation nowadays that we are having doesn’t put us in a state of equilibrium, rather our minds and bodies are imbalanced. To bring back the balance of free energy flow and re-establishing a state of health are the two most imperative factors that Ayurveda strives to bring in.

As a healing system, Ayurveda has several methods that restore balance in the body’s energy flow and restore health back to its original state. Meditation and yoga are relaxation techniques that can restore balance. The cleansing strategies can be used alone or together with other methods. When herbal tonics are used, the whole plant is used up which is vital to the method because natural vibrations of the plant will restore balance without overfilling the body.

So we can say that ayurveda music is an effective technique to restore harmony to the body’s energy flow, and in turn, induces a balance of health, happiness, and beauty. As a vibration, music has the ability to affect the vibrations in the body. Ayurveda healing sound is also part of the 500 year old Ayurveda holistic natural healing system.

The belief of Ayurvedic medicine is that the pituitary gland is stimulated by the suitable kind of music. Although the size of the pituitary gland is that of a pea, it releases powerful hormones and regulates homeostasis. Ayurvedic medicine uses ragas or Raga to produce the melodies of healing music. Tones of the Raga are different than the tones in western scales. The Raga is an Indian mode of music. It is characterized as “that which colors the mind”. Unlike western melody, this type of music has spiritual connections. As a healing music, Ragas are believed to have good effects on a lot of ailments including pain, insomnia, schizophrenia, epilepsy, and even aging. Aside from having good effects on certain ailments, Ayurvedic music also proves to be effective in controlling hypertension and liver function.

In order to produce vibrations in the cells of the body, Ayurveda makes use of music. The vibrations produced can alter the consciousness of the person thus restoring lost health. During extended periods of work, music has been known to enhance its efficiency and concentration. Having the suitable kind of music can help induce a relaxing mood.
