Obviously before a child is in school the majority of our focus is on their speech because their reading and writing skills are emergent or non-existent. During their primary years we would expand our search beyond speech to the include reading and spelling. A child with dyslexia will continue to have difficulty with their reading and spelling. Make a special note here of assessing their reading comprehension. Do they understand most of what they have read?
